Are TV Shows Too White?

Whiteness is often invisible on telvesion that is has become the norm that people no longer look into it. Growing up as a 90s baby I could remember all the shows that appeared on many different networks. From the shows like Martin, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Sister, Sister, 227, Amen, Roc, Family Matters, Moesha, Living Single, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and The Bernie Mac Show offered a faired representation of the culture.

American televsion shoud really be about representing a society that is diverse and complex because that is an American reality. Our representation should not be about two opitioins either of sucess or failure we either fall in the middle. Some of the most popular shows that have been awared for huge adwards like the Emmy’s have been white. For example, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and The Breaking Bad are some of the biggest shows.

On the contrary when blacks do appear on mainstream televsion they appear as funny friends, neighboors, or neighboors. When it comes to telvesion, it would be terrible to think that the best days for black America were behind them. This is an very important topic because just how I watch shows that were made before I was even born I want shows that my future children can watch and proud of the culture.
